The Highland football team grabbed two first team all-district spots.

At quarterback, Kody Wood was selected for first team. Wood was 69-127 for 816 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions in the district, and on the ground he had 496 yards and six touchdowns.

The other first team player for the Huskies is Jesse Hootman at receiver. Hootman had 119 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and receiving had 217 yards on 19 catches and one touchdown.

Highland head coach Tony Johnson said that these two players were a couple of key guys in the success of the program this year.

“We had some bright lights in the season. Kody Wood has come remarkable games at quarterback, he leaves the program as one of the most decorated quarterbacks that we’ve had, and he’s going to have a bright future, hopefully in college football as well,” Johnson said. “Jesse Hootman, obviously the same goes for him as well, he did a phenomenal jobs this year and obviously we really missed him our last two games with his injury, and those were shoes we just couldn’t fill, and it definitely affected our defense the last two games.”

On second team for Highland is Casey Castillo, Jake Yeggy, Brian Garcia and Nick Sandberg.

Highland finished their district season just out of the playoffs with a 3-4 district record.
