Tax credits for solar energy initiatives are being taken advantage of locally. Manager of Farmers Electric Cooperative, Warren McKenna, says a piece of land purchased 7 miles north of Kalona is the future site of 2,000 solar panels. The energy will be used primarily by agricultural businesses in that area, like Farmers Hen House. McKenna says the operation will be owned by a for-profit company that will sell the energy to their Cooperative. Development could begin as early as March.
