The Lone Tree girl’s basketball team starts things off quick this week with two games back-to-back and one of them being a rivalry game.

The Lady Lions will take on Danville tonight, and then turn around to travel to Highland on Tuesday for not only a conference game, but a bit of bragging rights too.

The Lions return their leading scorer for her last season in Madelyn Flemr. Flemr had 284 points last year for the Lions, and lead the team in rebounds, assists and steals.

Behind Flemr the Lions look to Kennedi Warson who had 133 points last year, the only other returner with over 100 points. Lone Tree will mainly look to these two to be the leaders on the court, but there are other seniors on this team that can step up, including Abbie Schmidt, and Allison Heitman.

Tonight they travel to Danville. The Bears had a solid close to their season last year, and just snuck past the Lions in their first game of the 2012-13 season. Danville brings back three players in their top five scorers. Allison Boyer leads the way with 174 points returning, while Gabbie Grothe is behind her with 134 points and Carlee Kelly who is the junior in this group of three brings 119 points.

Danville brings back a mixture of both experienced upperclassmen, and younger players that round out the team this year.

Tomorrow Lone Tree plays Highland away on a two night double header. Lone Tree head coach Travis Pierson said it is the same thing they did last year, and being away both games this early in the season.

“It is absolutely difficult to come right into things and go back-to-back right away, especially being away games,” Pierson said. “ We started with Danville last year, and it was a tough five point game, and then we went to Highland again last year to start off the season and we ended up getting that win.”

Lone Tree plays at Danville tonight with tip off at 8 P.M.
