November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Sandra Johnson, mayor of Washington, signed a mayoral proclamation for Hospice month as well. Robyn Harvey-Smith, Marketing Director for Hospice of Washington County explains that hospice care is quality end of life care for the patient and their family and caregivers. Hospice of Washington County takes a team approach which includes medical doctors, nurses, volunteers, nursing assistants, therapists and social workers.
Harvey-Smith says that she is very grateful for all of the work that volunteers do, which often is spending time with a patient so their caregiver can take a break or take care of other tasks. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Hospice of Washington County for more information.
