Influenza activity in Iowa is sporadic at this time, according to the Iowa Influenza Surveillance Network. One case of influenza B has been confirmed by the State Hygenic Laboratory. Danielle Pettit-Majewski, Director of Washington Public Health, recommends that everyone get a flu shot annually, particularly the elderly, young children, people who work in a health care facility and any caregivers who work with infants under 6 months of age or people who are immuno-compromised. She explains that every year people should get a shot because the flu strains change and are different from last year.
