Winter is under a month away, but experts still don’t know how severe it might be. Iowa State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says there are a number of ways to gauge what type of winter we’ll see. The best outlook tool is to look at whether the Pacific Ocean is in El Nino or La Nina. Hillaker says that won’t be a good indicator, because it the Pacific happens to be in a neutral phase at the moment.
