The temperature inside Columbus Jr and Sr High School dropped to 40 degrees Monday. An issue with the school’s boiler was caused by closed regulators in multiple gas lines, a safety measure triggered by a gas surge. Superintendent Marlene Johnson says they canceled classes for the day due to the cold. She says learning time is more important than seat time, and administration decided learning would have been difficult for the kids. The issues were fixed by the end of the day, and students were back in class Tuesday morning.
