A part of Kalona Community Center that holds exercise equipment and after school programs might be repurposed. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says if a new facility is built, it would open up space in the upper level. At a recent meeting, having the Mid-Prairie Home School Assistance Program utilize the unused area was brought up. Schlabaugh says the nearly 70 year old building does have some limitations, so work would need to be done. If the facility sharing agreement between Mid-Prairie and Kalona goes through, funding for the work would most likely be included in next year’s bond issue.
