Last year it was one game. The second to last game of the season and they finally got their first and only win. This year Columbus Junction started off with Mediapolis, a team that both times the Wildcats played them scored 70-plus points on their way to a dominating win.

This year, Columbus decided things were going to be different. Hosting Mediapolis for their first game of the season, Columbus Junction not only got the win, they led the whole way to a 63-51 win.

Columbus outscored Mediapolis 19-13 in the first quarter and led 29-25 at half. The big quarter for the Wildcats was the third when they outscored Mediapolis 20-4 to take a 49-29 lead into the fourth and final quarter in which they had to hang on for the ride and Mediapolis brought all they had, outscoring the Wildcats 22-14, but in the end it wasn’t enough and Columbus Junction started their season off with a win.

They were led by Chase Finke with 16 points on the night, and behind him a huge double-double by Todd Kenan who had 13 points and 17 rebounds for the Wildcats. Eli Sents had 13 points, and Ricky Rivers added 11 points, eight assists and eight steals.

Columbus Junction moves on to play Highland in a conference battle on Friday.
