The number of confirmed seasonal influenza cases in Iowa increased to seven, however the proportion of outpatient visits due to influenza-like illness decreased slightly to 0.19% according to the Influenza Surveillance Network. Two schools in the state reported 10% or greater absenteeism due to illness. Iowa’s influenza activity remains sporadic. One state in the nation, Mississippi, has a high influenza-like illness rate at this time, while Texas and Alabama have moderate activity.
