A report released by the state auditor yesterday reveals funds were improperly disbursed for years in the City of Riverside. The report detailed findings of a special investigation into the City’s Flexible Spending Accounts between July of 2006 and December 31st, 2012.

Over $64,000 worth of improper disbursements were identified during the investigation. $274,000 in additional disbursements were also seen as problematic.

Shortly after accepting the position of City Administrator, Rusty Rogerson requested the investigation when he saw potential issues with the accounts. Copies of the report have also been filed with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the state’s Attorney General’s Office. Those agencies were unavailable Friday to confirm if they would pursue criminal charges.
