Supporting the new auditorium project in Washington by committing $15,000 for a grant application that may net $1.2 million was tabled this morning by the Washington County Board of Supervisors. At this time the group has raised $4.5 million of the $7 million needed to build a state of the art auditorium that would seat nearly 700 people at a time.

Bob Youngquist with the organizing committee explained that it would help the county as a whole by attracting state and district contests, political conventions and meetings for various organizations. The space would also provide a place for Washington High School students to learn the arts.

The group aims to turn in an application for a community based Vision Iowa grant, but to do such financial support from the host city and county must be shown. The supervisors decided to table the item until Monday’s meeting, citing that they would like to hear feed back from constituents.
