A Kalona man is dead after an accident near the 1800 block of Highway 22. The Iowa State Patrol reports that Merle Miller, 63, left a cattle lot southbound and crossed the highway in a 2000 Ford F250. The truck entered a ditch, continued into a farm field, and struck a tree. Shortly afterward, the truck burst into flames. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Ambulance, and the Kalona Fire Department responded to the scene.
