The Washington Demons took first at this weekend’s wrestling tournament at Highland.

The Gary Curtis Wrestling tournament also included area schools Columbus Junction and Highland, as well as West Branch, West Liberty, Muscatine, Tri-County/ Montezuma, Regina, New London and Muscatine.

Washington won three weights, while also finishing runners-up in many weight classes to help with their win. Fletcher Green won at 120 by a 5-2 decision over Elliot Henderson of West Liberty, Tristan Pohren won by fall in 52 seconds over Justice Cardoza of Muscatine, and Brad Skubal won by a major decision over Danny Whitmore of Solon.

Highland also had three champions at their home tournament: Drew West won by fall over TJ Schott of Regina at 106, Bryce West beat Washington’s Kyle Anderson by decision at 113, and Tavis Cole won by Fall at 138 over Cole Fritz of Solon.

Columbus Junction had the most wins out of the area schools, taking four weights for themselves. Austin Edwards won by a major decision over Alex Gonzalez of Washington at 145, Tucker Morrison won by decision at 170 over West Branch’s Justin Roth, Mark Ramirez won by fall over Ryan Grosvenor of West Branch at 195, and Kyle Davis won at 220 over West Branch’s Drew Finnegan.

Washington finished in first with 185.5 points, while Columbus was fourth with 146 points and Highland was sixth with 117.5 points.
