The Demon wrestling team got a couple of dual wins last night, beating HLV and BGM in their final home triangular.

The meet was hardly two full duals with all of the forfeits, but Washington was victorious despite some slip ups against BGM. The dual started at 160 with a forfeit, but then went into a BGM rally of winning three in a row. Karlton Skubal was pinned in the third at 170, Brad Skubal lost by a 6-1 decision, and Washington forfeited at 195. The Demons were down 15-6 after the first four weights, and lost three more points as Chandler Reid lost by decision at 285.

Washington poured it on in the lower weights, getting forfeits at 106 and 113, a pin from Fletcher Green at 120, forfeits at 126 and 132, a pin at 138 by Tristan Pohren, a pin at 145 from Alex Gonzalez and a decision by Tanner Knupp at 152. Washington won the dual 51-18.

In the second dual of the night for Washington, they took care of the four matches that were wrestled, and only gave HLV points at 220 for a forfeit. Demons received pins from Trey VanWeelden at 126, Pohren at 132, Jarek Brown at 138 and Gonzalez at 148, giving the Demons the 78-6 win.

Washington head coach Brent VanWeelden said it was nice to see the seniors wrestle one last night in the gym, and that it wasn’t the prettiest of meets, but they will buckle down with some practice and head to East Marshall on Saturday.

“I didn’t think we wrestled all the great tonight, especially against BGM. We kind of let a couple of matches go, it was kind of flat, there wasn’t a lot of intensity in the air,” VanWeelden said. “But we got some matches in, we’ll have a nice practice tomorrow, and then we’ll go see how East Marshall goes for us.”

The Demons will go to East Marshall for a tournament on Saturday, with the first match at 9 AM.
