Flu activity is increasing in Washington County, according to Lynn Fisher, RN, with Washington County Public Health. The department has received several reports of influenza “rapid test positive” cases from healthcare providers’ offices. Flu activity in Iowa is regional and high at this time. For the reporting period ending January 11th, 70 cases of seasonal influenzea were confirmed by the State Hygenic Laboratory.

Fisher reminds people that the best way to protect yourself from the flu is to practice good hand hygiene, get the flu shot each year, stay home when sick and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
