An ordinance to allow ATVs on roads will begin the approval process all over again. The Washington County Board of Supervisors tabled the third reading of the current ordinance yesterday in favor of drafting a new ordinance which will allow the operation of ATVs on the shoulders of paved county roads. Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius explained what the current proposal allows only people living on paved roads can operate an ATV on the shoulder of paved road and only until they reach a B level county road to use. The supervisors elected to draft a new ordinance in which the vehicles will be allowed on the shoulders of county roads.

Washington County Public Health Director Danielle Pettit-Majewski asked that if the board is editing the ordinance that they consider adding more safety precautions. The earliest date the public hearing could be held is February 11th.
