Heat your home safely during these frigid conditions. Alliant Energy is reminding customers that the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning is highest in the winter, as it occurs when heating equipment malfunctions. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless deadly gas that can only be detected by a special carbon monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause headache, dizziness and shortness of breath.

Also, do not use a cooking stove or grill to heat a building and do not use a fuel-burning space heater in an enclosed space without proper ventilation.
