Highway 78 is one step closer to having its name changed. The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a proposal to rename the state highway in Washington County to Jay N. Ding Darling Memorial Highway. A group from Brighton is heading the efforts to rename the highway in honor of the Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist who helped develop conservation programs across the nation.

In 1950, Lake Darling State Park near Brighton was named in his honor in recognition of his contributions to the conservation movement.
