The wastewater bypass Wellman dealt with earlier this week has been taken care of. According to Brian Lee, Iowa DNR Environmental Specialist, the problem that caused sewage to come through a manhole on 9th Avenue was resolved by 4pm Monday. He says the wastewater is now flowing normally through the collection system. The City now has to clean out the affected sewer line and find out what caused the issue. He says an unknown amount of wastewater did make it to Smith Creek, but not enough to require the DNR to take samples from the stream for testing.
