The Winfield- Mt.Union basketball teams both had big conference games last night against Pekin, but only one came out with the win.

The girls game was a barn burner comeback win by the Wolves. WMU was down 26-17 at the half, and 33-29 after three quarters of play.

The fourth quarter was where things got interesting. WMU regained the lead for the first time since the second quarter, but Pekin regained it with five minutes to play and would hold on to it with a minute left. Down two, WMU came up with five points in the final 60 seconds to take a 47-46 win over Pekin and sole control over second place.

The Wolves were led by Logan Hartsock with 11 points, and Layne Davis with 10 points.

In the boys game it was more one sided. The closest the game got was a one point lead for Pekin with a minute left in the first half. Pekin led at halftime 27-23, and extended their lead in the second half to 13 points in the fourth quarter.

WMU fell 61-51 despite four players in the double figures. Zach Davis led the way with 12 points, while Max Fricke, Garret Baker and Jake Edwards all had 11 in the game.

WMU will continue conference action on Friday against Columbus Junction.
