Columbus Junction and Winfield-Mt. Union split in last nights double header.

In the girls game Columbus was looking for their third win in a row, but WMU had other plans taking the win 54-47 in overtime.

The Wildcats led throughout the game, including by three with a minute left to go in the fourth quarter, but WMU hung on and forced OT. Columbus Junction couldn’t match WMU in overtime and dropped the game.

WMU was led by Shelby Therme with 18 points and 15 from Emily Mathews, while Columbus got 16 from Kelsey Pretz and 11 from Claire Hamilton.

It was all Columbus Junction in the boys contest. The Wildcats came out on fire and led 40-25 at the halftime break. Columbus extended their lead to 21 after the third quarter on their way to a 70-46 win.

The Wildcats got a huge night from both Ricky Rivers with 25 points in the game and Chase Finke with 20. Max Fricke was the only player for the Wolves in the double digits with 14.

WMU’s next conference game is Tuesday against L-M, while Columbus Junction will play Mediapolis on Tuesday.
