The public is invited to watch the company restoring the Bunker Mill Bridge conduct their work at a foundry in Kalona today. Bach Steel will be hot riveting vertical beams for the bridge at Max Cast beginning at 10am . Community members are free to stop by to watch or try it themselves.

Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge is currently in the middle of a capital campaign to finance the restoration. The group’s executive director Julie Bowers says at tonight’s board meeting they’ll decide whether to use the $20,000 they have available to complete a few more phases of the restoration, or wait until they have the funding needed to complete the project.

As part of the campaign, flowers fabricated by Bach Steel using bits of metal from the bridge are now on sale.
