Those planning to fish on some of the larger bodies of water outside of Washington County should take into account ice thickness may vary as you move south. State Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan says ice is going to be thinner on Big Hollow Lake north of Burlington and Lake Geode in Danville than it is here. He recommends checking ice depths every few feet to avoid putting yourself in a dangerous situation. He adds no fish is worth going through the ice for.
