With funding in place, the City of Keota is preparing to start demolishing empty homes that have fallen into disrepair. The city is currently accepting bids for the demolition of the house at 506 North Ellis Street. This is the first of six nuisance properties they plan to address according to City Clerk Niki Osweiler. She explains the city has been wanting to do this for a couple of years, and after receiving a $10,000 riverboat grant, they now have the funding to put the plan into action.

Following the first demolition, houses at 317 North Ellis Street and 111 West Washington Avenue will be torn down. The city is also working to get permission to knock down structures at 212 North Baker Street, 401 North Green Street and 208 South Davis Street.
