A few scams have been reported in the past week. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has been informed of a phone scam where the caller claims to be with their department. Those receiving the call are being told they have failed to appear for court and need to pay a fine or bond. The victims are then asked to purchase a prepaid card and give the card numbers to the caller.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, they do not ask for payments over the phone, via wire transfer or prepaid card. Sergeant Brian Adolph says in the two cases they’ve handled, the victims reported the call before complying.

Another phone scam in the county involves individuals claiming to be with the IRS.
