The replacement of a portion of sewer line that may date back to when Kalona was settled in the 1800’s has been approved by the city council. Replacement of the dilapidated portion of storm sewer line beginning at A Avenue South has been discussed for years. Mayor Ken Herington says the line does go through some farmland, so they’d like to get this done before spring planting if possible. He adds some of the line that’s been dug up is made of wood, meaning its likely well over one hundred years old. The project is expected to cost around $75,000.
