A record number of families used homes loans through the USDA Rural Development last year in Iowa. According to the USDA, 2,663 rural Iowa families used this program to become homeowners in 2013, a 16% increase from 2012. Homes eligible for this program must be in rural areas or communites of less than 20,000 residents. In total, the USDA Rural Development’s investment in rural Iowa was nearly $500 million last year, nearly $300 million of which was used for housing opportunities.
