Columbus Junction and WACO got together for a conference double header last night.

In the girls’ game, WACO put an end to the winning ways of Columbus Junction, winning 45-29. The Wildcats trailed the whole game, down 22-14 at half. Columbus only scored three points in the third quarter and could not come back from the deficit.

Ericka Leichty led the way for the Warriors with 11 points, and Jennie Greene had nine. Columbus was led by Kelsey Pretz with seven points.

The WACO boys had Columbus in control the entire time, jumping out to an eight point lead after the first quarter, and a 10 point lead at halftime. The Warriors smallest lead after the end of a quarter was in the third, when they didn’t score until the final minute to lead by four. The Warriors hung on and got the 58-53 win.

WACO was led by Bryce Achen with 16, while Dylan Carlson had 14, and Braden Blake had 12. Columbus was led by Ricky Rivers with 21 points.

Both squads are back in action tonight, with Columbus Junction traveling to Lone Tree, and WACO travels to Louisa- Muscatine.
