The WACO basketball team takes on Holy Trinity tonight for the first round of the regional basketball tournament.

WACO will host this second meeting between the two teams, and looks for the same outcome as before when WACO won 42-37.

The Warriors come in at 7-13, and scoring 31.5 points per game, but the question remains if their leading scorer Aaliyah Brown will be back from injury tonight to lead her team. Brown is scoring 11.4 points per game for WACO. Jennie Green and Erika Leichty come in to help; both with 5.5 points per game, but WACO will need someone to step up if Brown is not ready to go.

Holy Trinity comes in at 7-14, and scoring 43.6 points per game. Abby Boeding leads the team with 10 points per game, while Beth Steffensmeier and Cayla Pieper both come in at 6.5.

WACO head coach Shannon Rugg said his team knows what Holy Trinity will bring to the court, and that they should have a good chance at winning.

“We know what they are going to do, we already played them once and beat them down at their place, but it was a close game, it was an eight point game, and you never know if girls basketball, what is going to happen,” Rugg said. “We’ll take our chances, and it’s at home, so hopefully we get a big crowd to come out and support us. Last Thursday nights crowd against Columbus was just outstanding, it was a lot of fun, and the kids had a lot of fun, so hopefully we can get that atmosphere back [tonight] against Holy Trinity, and win that one and move on to the next round.”

WACO host Holy Trinity tonight at 7 PM, with the winner moving on to play Burlington Notre Dame.
