A resolution urging the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to deny a license for a casino in Linn County due to the impact on Washington County was approved yesterday by the Washington County Board of Supervisors. A decision on whther to allow a Cedar Rapids casino license will be made in April by the commission.

At the meeting, General Manager Dan Franz explained that if a casino was built in Cedar Rapids the Riverside Casino would likely lose 31% in revenue, 250 jobs would be cut, the golf course would be closed and the Riverboat Foundation would have a $1.1 million annual reduction. Since 2006, the Riverboat Foundation has given $23.8 million to local government and non-profits.

Representatives will be asking other area government agencies to approve similar resolutions.
