So far this month Washington has had over a foot of snow and the frost has gone deep into the ground. Washington Maintenance and Construction Superintendent J.J. Bell states that the frost has been between 24 and 36 inches deep, which is contributing to water main breaks.

On average, the City of Washington has about 22 breaks annually, but there have been 23 already this year in just two months. Bell says that anyone needing to report a break can call the maintenance and construction department at 653-2947.
