Severe weather awareness week is this week. At this time Larry Smith, emergency management coordinator for Washington and Keokuk counties, is advising that people have a kit ready that includes a weather radio, water, food and extra medication in case severe weather hits the area. Kits should also include anything necessary for pets.

Sheriff Jerry Dunbar also suggests having a family plan and practicing it with your children.
