Cold Spring Delays Planting of Specialty Crop

The cold winter and start to spring is keeping one specialty crop farmer from getting his growing season started. Kurt Garretson raises elderberries at East Grove Farms in Henry County, which is the oldest continuously settled farm in Iowa. He says since there needs to be a few inches of thawed ground to start planting, they’re about a month behind. He adds that his existing elderberry bushes remain dormant.
