The small Irish community in the Columbus Junction area will celebrate St Patrick’s Day with the public this afternoon. Organizer of this year’s parade, Lois Mincks, says they’ve held what she calls the smallest and shortest parade in Iowa for the past five years. Before the parade begins at the American Legion at 5, there will be Irish music and face painting starting at 4.
She adds there will be grand marshal’s this year, including Mincks’ mother, Corinne Hargrafen, who can trace her ancestry back 170 years to County Wicklow in Ireland. The other grand marshals, Catherine and Keith Carrey, can also trace their lineage back to Ireland.
