The Mid-Prairie soccer team has started practice, but won’t start the season until March 28th.

The Golden Hawks bring back a lot of weapons this year, and are looking to compete for a conference title, and to battle deep into the playoffs.

Mid-Prairie brings back all of their top scorers, including Austin Erthum who had 22 goals and 21 assists last year and Wyatt Cady who had 19 goals and 8 assists last year. One spot the Golden Hawks will need to replace is at the goalie position, as Chase Murry graduated last year, and there is no one else with any varsity minutes from last year.

Head coach Pat Cady said this is a great team, but he would like a couple more players to step up, and really help put the pressure on the other teams.

“We need three or four other players to compliment the ones that are already scoring and assisting everybody,” Cady said. “If we can get to some games where we have five guys on the field that are dangerous, making runs out of midfield, playing balls to corners, it will make the game a lot better for not only Austin and Wyatt, but it’s going to make it more dangerous for other teams to play us, and they are going to have to change over to our style of play, rather than us worry about how we’re going to defend them.”

The Golden Hawks open with Solon on March 28th, and will host their first home match on April 10th against West Liberty, and then turn around and host Regina on April 14th.

Mid-Prairie travels to Washington for the county rivalry on April 15th, and will host a tournament on May 10th with Washington, Fairfield and Cedar Valley Christian.

Substate for the Golden Hawks starts May 26th.
