This weekend there will be high visibility traffic enforcement in Washington County as part of the sTEP effort across the state. Sergeant Shawn Ellingson states that there will be zero tolerance for all seat belt violations with the goal of getting people to buckle up, slow down and drive sober in an effort to save lives and reduce serious crashes.

In 2012, 72% of fatal wrecks in Iowa were on secondary rural roads. Some factors that contribute to this include losing control, driving too fast, failing to yeild, and alcohol, among others.
