With the deadline to submit their budget Saturday, the Riverside City Council will be holding their budget hearing on Friday. Based on recommendations from a consulting firm, residents will see an increase to their water and sewer rates, as well as the tax levy.

Both water and sewer will go from $9 to $12 for the first 10,000 gallons. And the tax levy will increase by a dollar to $6.10. These increases will address the $953,000 shortfall in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.

This is due to the Riverside Casino being unable to renew its contract with Riverside until after a decision is made by the state’s gaming commission on a casino license in Cedar Rapids. Their agreement expires in July.
