Two employees were injured at a hog confinement at 1664 Larch Avenue just north of G20 yesterday morning. According to Steve Yotty Kalona Fire Chief, it is believed that when the heater turned on an explosion occurred with methane gas causing a fire. The two employees were transported to area hospitals.

According to the Washington Communications Center, Brenneman Pork owns the building and livestock was inside. Yotty states no pigs were lost. Firefighters were working at the scene until about noon.

Responding to the scene were Washington Fire, Kalona Fire, Wellman Fire, Kalona EMS and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. KCII will bring you more information when it becomes official.
