The City of Wayland is reminding its residents to call ahead before digging, and to alert them when things look out of the ordinary. City staff is requesting that if an individual comes across pools of liquid, blowing dirt, hissing sounds, gas odors, bubbles in standing water and frozen soil or ice next to a pipeline, to report them immediately. Those may be signs of a gas pipeline leak. And homeowners planning to dig in their yard should call the Iowa One Call Center at 811 before doing so to avoid hitting a line in Wayland’s Municipal Gas System. For more information, contact city hall.
