With snow in the forecast it may be hard to think about gardens and plant up keep, however horticulturists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach advise now is the time to prune many plants. Fruit trees should be pruned between late February and early April. Also, shrubs that produce fruit, like gooseberries and blueberries, should be pruned in late winter or early spring, until bud break. And grapevines should be pruned between late February and early April as well. Grapevines pruned at this time of year may lose sap, but this will not harm the vines.
