IMS and Columbus matched up Tuesday night at the Kalona Golf Course in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference Co-ed Dual. On the boys side, Columbus took the team race by a 182 to 249 score. The Wildcats swept the individual honors as well with Ethan Leyden firing a round of 41 to receive medalist honors. Austin Edwards was medalist runner up with his 45. Other scores for Columbus included Alex Mincer with 47, Zac Howell at 49, Eli Sents with 51 and Mitchell Griffin at 56. IMS was led by Tanner Leyden’s 48. Other IMS scores included Roman Slabach with 60, Ben Miller at 62, Zach Hill with 79 and Jacob Bruns at 80.
The girls contest was a tight one, but the Wildcats completed the sweep winning the team title 238-242. The Wildcats were led by meet co-medalist Kortney Orr and her 53. Other Wildcat scores included Sarah Todd’s 60, Lizzie Duncan at 61, Grace Chapman with 64, Emily Duncan’s 65 and Marissa Hafner at 87. IMS was led by meet co-medalist Breana Stout’s card of 53. After the meet Stout talked about her birdie on hole two that keyed her round.
“Hole two, I actually got a two on it,” Stout said. “I put it on the green about a foot and a half away from the hole.”
Other scores for IMS included Jess Bender at 57, Abbie DeWild with 63, Ellie Stastny’s 69, Michaela Prihoda at 72 and Liza Brenneman with 75. Following the meet IMS Head Coach Steve Nelson talked about his team’s performance in their first meet of the season.
“A few of those girls, they played some really good holes, just a few of those holes took their rounds down a little bit. We have our seventh golfer Olivia Yoder shooting a 60 tonight, and had she been on varsity, we would have won the meet,” Nelson said. “Last year, we didn’t compete in a lot of meets, and this year first meet and we lose by four. Tanner saw that he can compete with any of those guys. Some of those guys struggled tonight, but again, it is early in the year, and it’s time to get the practice in and those guys are motivated to do it so we should just get better.”
IMS travels to Wapello Thursday.
