A Washington teen has been selected for a junior development team and will be racing in a week-long international tour in Canada this summer. Fourteen-year-old Alijah Beatty, a freshman at Iowa Mennonite School, is continuing her competitive cycling this year and has joined the Mercy-Specialized Iowa City Cycling Women’s racing team. She began this racing season by winning the women’s race at Kent Park in March. This weekend she will be cycling in this weekend’s Chris Lillig Memorial Cup and Old Capital Criterium in Iowa City and Kalona.

Last year, Beatty ranked in the top five in the nation in her age group for USA Cycling Cyclocross. She is the daughter of Mark and Susie Beatty and has been competing for five years.
