The Drake Relays kick off today, and some area athletes will be competing.

Washington’s Alex Coker and Columbus Junction’s Rickey Rivers will compete at the Drake Relays today in the long jump.

Washington head coach Steve Roth said Coker is ready to go, and that his is a big honor for him.

“It’s a very deserved honor. Right now he is sitting around 19th, which is not a big deal because he can go farther. He needs to get a few jumps in at Drake because he needs to get ready for the state track meet,” Roth said. “I’ve had him out a little bit, he hasn’t jumped every meet. He’s jumped a couple meets indoor, and a couple of meets outdoor and that’s about it, I’m just trying to keep him healthy, and he has really responded well. He’s good to go, it should be an interesting day for Alex Coker in the long jump.”

Long jump is at 3:30 this afternoon.
