A project on Highway 1 beginning today will require alternating lane closures during daylight hours. The resurfacing from the railroad overpass on the west side of Washington to Highway 22 in Kalona is expected to take over 8 months.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, alternating lane closures will take place from one-half hour after sunrise to one-half hour before sunset weekdays and Saturdays.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
