The Boy Scout troop in Kalona is planning a trip up to one of Iowa’s national monuments. This summer, Boy Scout Troop 234 is traveling to the Effigy Mounds in the northeast corner of the state. Assistant Scout Master Kevin Kromers says the educational trip is going to allow the scouts to earn the Indian Lore Badge; something they wouldn’t be able to get locally. That merit badge is among 115 optional badges. There are 21 others required to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
