The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team won their tournament at Newton this weekend, while shutting out both teams they played.

The Golden Hawks started the day with a win over PCM 3-0. Mid-Prairie got goals from Austin Errthum, Wyatt Cady and Abduhl Masabah.

Next up for the Golden Hawks was host school Newton. Mid-Prairie got their first goal from Ryan Harapat and made the score 1-0. The next goal came from a nice assist from Austin Errthum to Wyatt Cady who beat two Newton defenders and the keeper to make it the final 2-0 score.

The Golden Hawks showed their depth early in the season with a goal from Harapat, and head coach Pat Cady said it was nice to see it come this early, and that his goal may have meant a little more.

“Harapat, he’s just a freshmen, he has club experience, and he got the first goal against Newton, and it was great to see the whole team just come up and grab him and shake him, and it was his birthday, so what a great birthday present as a freshmen to have a goal playing against a quality 2A Newton club, and it is nice to see that he is going to give us immediate support for what we need him for,” Cady said.

The Golden Hawks are back in action tonight when they travel to Clear Creek- Amana for the Clippers first competition.

Cady said this is a redemption game for the seniors from last year’s first game loss.

“I know for sure that for these seniors, this is one that they really want to get back, and I think they have a good chance of winning this game tonight, the only thing we have to look out for is during the second game against Newton, we experienced some guys that were getting pretty tight, so there were some injuries and guys out there stretching the whole time,” Cady said. “I think everyone should be ready to go enough, that if we are a healthy squad going back out there tonight, then I think we’re going to give Clear Creek-Amana a game and walk away with the victory.”

Tonight’s game is at CCA and starts at 6:30.
