The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team starts the regular season today, when they travel to Newton for a tournament.

The No. 9 ranked Golden Hawks have depth beyond depth this season, making them a team that can put fresh legs in when they need or want to run out their opponents.

Head coach Pat Cady talked about the tournament and how he will use his teams depth to their advantage.

“In the past it would kind of scare me a little bit going into a full day tournament, but the team is so deep this year, we’re going to be able to run a lot of players in, which I believe is going to give us a major advantage, and hopefully [today] if we can get up fast and early in the first game, we’ll be able to pull back some of our starting players and put some of our second team kids in and I think still give a quality game, and still score some goals, so with our depth, we are looking pretty good for the weekend,” Cady said.

The Golden Hawks will play PCM to start off the tournament, and if they win will play the winner of the other side of the bracket.

Today’s tournament is at Newton at 9 A.M.
