National Healthcare Decisions Day is next week. Kate McDonald, a social worker with HCI Care Services, states it is for adults to decide healthcare decisions and document them so that if there is illness or an accident others can know their desires. Some of those decisions include a healthcare power of attorney, a living will and how far to take medical care, such as life support. She adds the legal forms needed can be found on HCI’s website and need to be notarized or signed by two witnesses outside of the family.
McDonald says having these decisions made ahead of time can reduce stress for loved ones at a later date and can help ensure choices are made as you would like.
