A project on Kalona’s A Avenue will begin in the next few weeks. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says Maxwell Construction is disbanding an old sewer line and installing a new one that will run from A Avenue South into an adjacent field towards the drainage ditch on the east side of town. He explains the new concrete line is going to carry water at a faster rate to the east ditch, improving drainage.

The line that’s being plugged is made of wood and was likely installed when Kalona was settled in the 1800’s.

Maxwell Construction’s bid of around $60,000 was selected by the city council last week.
